The 15 Most #Annoying #Hashtags in the #World

Hashtags can be a great online tool; they can help extend your social reach and can connect you with thousands of like-minded people or customers. But, they can also be a curse too.
You can have too much of a good thing and some people are abusing this humble symbol. One simple hashtag wields the power to annoy dozens, if not hundreds, just by its presence. And trust us, you’ll know exactly what we mean once you’ve taken a look at those mentioned in this post.
So, without further ado, here is our pick of the 15 most annoying hashtags in the world:

1. #TransformationTuesday

Once a well-intended hashtag to help recognise the efforts of people who have succeeded in great weight loss, #TransformationTuesday has now morphed into a method of attention seeking for the beautiful people of the world to further boost their ego.

2. #YOLO

YOLO is like so last year! And let’s face it, unless you were under the age of about 17, it was never ‘cool’ or acceptable to use this term in the first place. The moral of the story? #YOLO had a very short lifespan and is sadly not with us anymore.

3. #CatsOfTwitter

Your cat may be your pride and joy, and you may think it’s the best thing since sliced bread, but for most of your followers one photo is enough. Instead over-sized glasses and knitted jumper wearing women around the world are sharing dozens of photos a day and annoying anyone who dares click on #CatsOfTwitter.

4. #Hipster

Any self-respecting hipster knows it’s not hipster to call yourself hipster – do you follow? This trendy group would never self-identify or put a label on anything. So, expect a lot of wannabes using this hashtag.

5. #Blessed

#Blessed and its common alternative, #HumbleBrag, are up there as some of the most annoying hashtags around. Why? Well, you can guarantee that nearly all of the people using this tag aren’t expressing their gratefulness for all the wonderful things in their life, but showing off and trying to make anyone who sees them envious.

6. #Winning

Okay, so admittedly, this one isn’t too bad; however, when someone else is having great luck, it’s only natural to get a little jealous and wish it was happening to you too. Who wouldn’t want 7 McNuggets instead of 6 or to find a £20 note on the street?

7. #likeforlike

We’re going back to the attention seekers for this one. #likeforlike is used by those who are self-promoting and are liking other people’s tweets or Instagram photos in the hope they’ll get a like back and look more popular than they actually are. Whatever happened to actually talking to a person and earning it?

8. #skinnygirlproblems

Everyone has problems, but let’s face it, no one wants to hear it when most of us have dabbled with a few diets in our lifetime.

9. #firstworldproblems

There’s a thin line between people who use this hashtag because they genuinely have an issue and those who find their own pretentiousness funny. Follow this hashtag on Twitter for tweets about life-ending issues, such as Waitrose not stocking a popular brand of caviar and hotel staff forgetting to turn down a guest’s bed.

10. #nofilter

You’d be surprised how many people tag their photos with #nofilter, yet they have actually used one. Tut tut, sneaky social users! And some aren’t even subtle about it.
It happens so often that there’s even an online feed dedicated to finding the fakers. Check it out at Filter Fakers.

11. #SorryNotSorry

Mums are fond of the sayings “say sorry like you mean it” and “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”. If only these hashtaggers listened to this advice.

12. #Selfie

Is anyone stupid enough that they need a selfie labelled so they know what it is? Apparently, so.

13. #foodporn

Now, this hashtag can be annoying for 2 reasons: One is that photos of amazing looking food are only going to make you jealous and get your stomach rumbling. On the other end of the scale is the person who’s  tagged some disgusting slop which is only going to put you off your mildly exciting spag bol. Just don’t tweet what you eat, it’s easier.

14. #Fitspo

We all have that friend who is utterly obsessed with fitness and regularly shares pictures titled something like ‘do you even lift bro?’ or ‘does she even squat though?’ And having a fitspiration to strive towards is great… we just don’t want to have #fitspo pictures littering our feeds.

15. #fbloggers

Everyone is a blogger these days. Or at least it seems this way if you click on one of the million pictures tagged with this hashtag on Instagram at the moment. It’s getting hard to spot the real bloggers among the crowd!

In the meantime, we’re off to take a #selfie with our #fbloggers and to eat some #foodporn – #SorryNotSorry #Winning!
